Shapes of Rhythm: The Music of Galt MacDermot
We need your help. We need to finish this film!
Shapes of Rhythm: The Music of Galt MacDermot has existed as a documentary in one form or another for 12 years. An enormous amount of work has been accomplished over this time to preserve, document and explain the history of Galt MacDermot's music life as well as the significant and influential musicals, records and collaborations he participated in as composer and artist. These include "Hair" with Gerome Ragni, James Rado and Tom O'Horgan, "Two Gentlemen of Verona" with John Guare, "The Joker of Seville" with Derek Walcott all of whom have been interviewed. We have incorporated numerous recordings and samples by artists Bernard Purdie, Melba Moore, Nell Carter, Annie Golden, Oh No and many more.We have interviewed over 50 family members, artist and collaborators and filmed over 10 major theater productions, concerts and live appearances. In 2010 we held a fundraising concert at Joe's Pub in the Public Theater and combined the event with a Kickstarter campaign. The success of those two actions allowed us to buy the music rights to eleven songs from "Hair" - a significant accomplishment. Now we need to go for the brass ring - the completion and distribution of Galt's musically story: The Shapes of Rhythm. We want to complete the film for "Hair"s 50th anniversary in 2018.
